Borderlands - Occultist

No, NOT a real gun - and most certainly NO AI!!!
In an earlier post I showed some of the models I created for this blaster...
Inspired by a screenshot of a blaster in Borderlands 3, I thought I might want to bring such a thing to life, just to see if I can. This was my very first ever try working with 3d software and a 3d printer.
I started to teach myself Fusion 360 just after Christmas 2022. 3 months and 3 youtube videos later I was on a level that surprised me a lot.
So, I took the screenshot as a guideline, figured out realistic proportions to fit a human hand, changed some things (eg the original barrel doesn't line up with the cylinder (and mine doesn't even have a real barrel haha), a 6 shooter is rather pointless in such a computergame and the original had no way to reload... etc).
The whole 3d stuff was a rather clean thing. Printing (on FDM) was quite time consuming though, but the printer needs no attention. Since this is a prototype, I had to figure how to place things for good results. I had a couple of misprints, things I wasn't happy with or some functionality issues. All in all, this is made up from some 50 individual pieces. About the same number of bits were discarded.
After printing, though, the real work started. Hours and hours of sanding, adjusting, priming, painting, coating, re-sanding, polishing etc.
Oh, yeah, and making fake ammunition too.
But I'm pretty pleased with this piece.
Night images will follow, to show off lighting, laser aim etc.

A little version upgrade. I designed another cover for the ammo cylinder, giving it a slimmer look and made a new scope.

Altered front, the housing for the laser aim is now also a hand rest to hold the thing more comfortably

"Air intakes" and "vents on the left side. Those bits were hard to model but even harder to actually print and clean up.

I decided I wanted the laser aim housing under the barrels to also be a handrest. Back to Fusion and designing a new part that fits my ideas

The complete model plus parts of the stand. Modeled in Fusion 360, about 50 final pieces to be printed.
